Kitsap Celebrates Local Foods December 10, 11 & 12
Kitsap’s Own Terra Madre 2010 – Celebrate Local Foods December 10, 11 & 12. Check the link for a listing of events. Local food vendors are encouraged to participate on December 11th for food trade show featuring local and regional foods http://kitsapfoodchain.org/
Our next Meeting – Monday December 13, 2010, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds
Our next Meeting (New Weekday and Location) – Monday, December 13, 2010, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Eagle’s Nest at the Kitsap County Fair grounds, Fairgrounds Road, Bremerton
Who should attend All who are interested in eating locally grown food or growing their own food in Kitsap County. City chickens in Bremerton, independent local-food stores, farmers markets, restaurants featuring locally grown food, small commercial farms, a rise in backyard farmers and gardeners, and a continued interest in keeping horses prove that locally grown food in Kitsap County moved into the mainstream this year. Meet other like-minded people and help the KCAA shape agriculture in Kitsap.
Topic: Panel and Attendee discussion about the future of Agricultural Zoning. Kitsap County is now without agricultural zoning and is currently working on creating some. What does that mean for you and a historical industry that has been kicked a bit. The new zoning will affect everything from growing and selling fruit and vegetables to owning livestock, including horses.
Food: Potluck. Please bring a favorite and easy dish that can be enjoyed by three or four other people.

The Kitsap noxious weed program helps farms.
The Kitsap noxious weed program is one of the great bargains we Kitsap citizens enjoy. If you own or rent land, then you may need the services of the Kitsap noxious weed program. Over the past year the Kitsap noxious weed program services have been greatly reduced due to county-wide cut-backs.
November 22nd the Weed Board and Staff will be presenting a request to the Board Of County Commissioners (BOCC) to adjust the noxious weed fee from 1 dollar per parcel per year to 2 dollars per parcel per year. If you cannot attend the meeting, at least call or write about this service.
I personally support of this service. We benefitted by finding out that what looked like a plant on the noxious weed list simply looked similar. Without the help of Dana Coggon, we would have spent a lot of time trying to get rid of what turned out to be a beneficial plant. Ridding the county of noxious weeds helps us all who are farming and enjoying the fruits of the farms.
Artisanal Meats and Boutique Jams and Marmalades Workshops
One of the most exciting things going on at Kitsap Extension this month is our Artisanal Meats Workshop scheduled for Monday, November 15th from 6 – 9 pm at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, Presidents Hall Kitchen. Diane Fish, also on the Small Farms Team, will be joining us for our hands-on sausage stuffing demonstration. I mentioned it was hands-on right? Bring an apron and your zeal for learning something new!
On December 6th, Monica Downen, of Monica’s Waterfront Bakery and Deli in Silverdale welcomes us for Boutique Jams and Marmalades. We will be exploring the basics of Jams and Jellies as well as recipes you would not find in Granny’s cupboard. As the citrus season rolls in, our make and take will feature a citrus marmalade. You know when you think about it, one batch of jam or jelly makes 4-6 quick and economical gifts!
Here is the link to download your registration, http://kitsap.wsu.edu It is the first bullet on the right hand side of the homepage.
I hope you are as excited as I am!
Cheers!

Bainbridge Island Farmers’ Market Extends the Season
We’re running through October 30 this year each Saturday at Town Square, City Hall Park. There’s a plethora of produce, a medley of meats, goat cheese and yogurt, Island-grown wines, chicken-duck-goose eggs, local honey, and a host of delectable yums for table and tum.
Plus, of course, plants for the fall/winter garden, hand-crafted soaps, wearables for women and children, artglass, woodcraft, ceramics, jewelry, dolls and other dazzlers for those who want to start holiday shopping early or indulge themselves (who, after all, deserves indulgence more?).
Our annual Indoor-Outdoor Winter Market starts on Saturday November 20, 10am – 3pm, at Eagle Harbor Church, Winslow Way at Madison, and runs the five Saturdays until Christmas. Meat and veggies for the holiday table; desserts like Buche d’Noel and chocolate truffles, heirloom-recipe gingerbread and high-octane fruitcake; gifts for absolutely everyone including family pets; holiday decor including sedum wreaths as well as evergreen and holly plus owly ornaments and more of glass, wood, and fibers.
Get your fix — and your fixin’s! We’ll see you at Market!

It’s our last hurrah! (Week 24 or 24)
Bremerton Farmers Market • Thursday, 4-6:30pm • Evergreen Park
Can you believe it? A whole season gone, already? How quickly time flies! This is a bittersweet farewell for me, as I will not be returning to manage the Market next season… as much as I have enjoyed working for the vendors and assisting all the customers, I need to be able to sleep more and focus on my life and projects on the Key Peninsula. Therefore, the search is on for a new Market Manager for next season. If you know anyone who is interested, please have him or her email a resume to the Bremerton Farmers Market email (bremertonfarmersmarket@gmail.com).
For those of you who have taken advantage of our debit/credit and EBT token program this season, thank you for your support! We would LOVE for those of you with wooden tokens leftover to go ahead and redeem them at our final market this week. According to my records, there are $130 in debit/credit tokens and $21 in EBT tokens to spend. Thank you!!
WHO’LL BE AT MARKET THIS WEEK*:
FARMERS/GROWERS:
