Growing Organic Feed for Livestock

Northwest farmers, researchers, advocates,

I am seeking farmer experiences with growing organic livestock feeds. I’m presenting information on this topic in January at the EcoFarm conference in Monterey, and wanting to highlight the experiences and convey the strategies of farmers growing organic livestock feeds in our area.

Below is a more generic inquiry I’ve posted to some other listservs and such.

Thanks,

Learn about raising organic livestock feed, or share your experiences in raising your own organic livestock feed. Stephen Bramwell, faculty at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, is seeking farmer/researcher experiences with raising organic feed for livestock. Input will contribute to an assembled body of information/experiences that will be presented at the EcoFarm conference in Monterey, CA in January. The information will be made available to anyone interested, and certainly to those who participate. Send your questions, particular strategies, lessons learned, bloopers and successful practices to bramwels@evergreen.edu, 360-867-6702. Recognition will be given to all contributors. Pictures, word files and phone calls welcome. Thanks!

I own a small, local endeavor called “Scratch and Peck…an eggsellent feed company” that specializes in whole grain and organic chicken feed.
I am seeking locally grown organic grains for my feeds. I would like to expand into mixing feeds for all livestock animals but want the grains to be locally sourced.
I’d love to hear from any farmer that is currently growing feed grains or who may be interested in doing so.
