The October 3rd Event Held at Historic Farm in Southworth

(Bremerton, WA)  Pony rides, apple cider pressing, pumpkin decorating, live music, local crafts, raffles for roundtrip airline tickets and one of a kind artist-designed tote bags and much more, provide families with many opportunities for celebrating the fall harvest  during the second Fall Fair hosted by the Kitsap Community Food Co-op.  The event is Saturday October 3rd from 10 AM to 3 PM at Rodstol Lane Farm (www.rlf1916.com) located at 4154 Rodstol Lane in Southworth, Washington.  Parking is $5 per vehicle; carpooling is encouraged.  Co-op volunteers will also be present to talk with attendees about the benefits of becoming a Co-op Member-Owner, and will be accepting membership applications.  For more information email info@kitsapfoodcoop.org, call 360.813-1301 or check out the Co-op’s website at www.kitsapfoodcoop.org.

Fall Fair To Benefit the Kitsap Food Co-op

The Co-op’s goal is to open a full-service member-owned community grocery store which would focus on supporting the local economy by purchasing as much as possible from local farmers and producers of crafts and value-added grocery products, such as jams and soups.   “Cooperative grocery stores can be highly successful – with enough community and member support,” comments Laura Moynihan, Board President.  “The Fall Fair, is not only a wonderful way to recognize the importance of local farmers and crafters, but also provides the co-op with needed funds to help us get a store open.”

For those unfamiliar with the model, in its most basic terms a cooperative is a type of business in which the members are also the owners.  Some recognizable cooperative businesses include:  Ocean Spray, an agricultural cooperative; Ace Hardware, a retailer-owned cooperative; REI, a consumer cooperative; and here locally, the Kitsap Community Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit financial cooperative – all of them member-owned.  The Kitsap Community Food Co-op, a consumer cooperative, will be open to everyone to shop, but only members will enjoy the unique benefits, including profit sharing (otherwise known as “patronage rebates”), store discounts, and a chance to participate in many of the decisions and direction the store takes.

More information on the Kitsap Community Food Co-op may be found at www.kitsapfoodcoop.org, by contacting Board President Laura Moynihan at (360) 813-1301, or by sending an email to info@kitsapfoodcoop.org.
