Civic Engagment With The Kitsap Sun and Kitsap Regional Library

Joint Meeting With the Kitsap Sun and Kitsap Regional Library

Norm Dicks Center
Tuesday, June 8th, 6:00 PM
345 Sixth Street
Bremerton, WA

The June 8th, 2010 meeting of the KCAA is all about you. Normally, our monthly meetings feature some sort of expert presenter on a topic that will add a link to the local food network. So for instance last month we invited Sharon Exley from the USDA to share with us her extensive information about various loan and grants available to farmers. She was just chock full of information about programs and people to help connect farmers to money. She left us with a rolodex of contact information and brochures about the programs. We have these available to hand out to farmers whenever they request them.

Sure, we always leave room for some Q&A and networking but it is very difficult to to engage the audience in ways that allow for a lot of audience input and participation but this joint meeting will allow us to do that a bit more than usual. The format will be that of a community forum with speakers selected from among people who have proven their commitment to civic engagement with their past and current work. The panel of speakers for the evening will include:

Nikki Johanson of Pheasant Fields Farm
Arno Bergstrom of the WSU Extension Kitsap
Sally Maron of Sound Food
Jim Freeman of the KCAA

The discussion will be moderated by David Nelson, editor of the Kitsap Sun.

We might set up our broadcast table in the hall outside the meeting room and record some conversations with others from the evening to be used on our Buy Local Radio Show at a later date. We will also make facilities available to allow participants to post their written thoughts for publication on www.BuyLocalFoodInKitsap.org and maybe on the Sun’s blog network.
