About KCAA

CircleLogoThe Kitsap Community and Agricultural Alliance is a volunteer organization dedicated to building a local food network. We are helping to make  growing, selling, buying and eating local food on the Kitsap Peninsula a mainstream activity as opposed to a niche activity enjoyed by only a few.

Buying and Eating Local Food will

•    improve your health
•    delight your taste buds
•    stretch your food budget
•    increase income in your community
•    preserve farmland; and
•    make you new friends

We conduct educational meetings, special events and conduct research on how to improve the lot of agriculture in Kitsap County. We are one of the few organizations able and willing to jump in and participate in activities designed to increase the incomes of local farmers and provide more, healthy, local, fresh food for everybody in Kitsap.

Our readers list and membership is growing month by month and it is our committed core of volunteers that are making that happen. We carry out our programs primarily through what we call our task force. More than 25 volunteers are currently working on projects conceived to achieve the goal of helping local food become mainstream. We have designed our task force program to be easy to work on and fun. Many of our task force members are local business owners, farmers and professionals that work in our community. We are dedicated to buy local first and we all understand the economic and cultural value that this brings to Kitsap County.

We derive our income first from membership dues followed by sponsorships and grants.

Buying local and consuming local food is the best thing that any individual can do to create your own economic stimulus program and that of your neighborhood.

Please consider joining the KCAA and contributing your effort to make our community stronger, more free and able to determine our own future with healthy food. We all look forward to meeting you soon.

KCAA In The News Again

Last modified on 2009-05-13 18:49:31 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

The Kitsap Community and Agricultural Alliance is a pretty ambitious group of volunteers. Our farmers, business owners and creative eaters are amazing, take charge sorts of people that don’t wait for others to give them instruction. The meetings in recent months reflect this. The room is nearly full, new faces are appearing and people are drawn to stay after the presentations and network with a lively buzz. Our May meeting on bees was no exception. Articles from  Sue Edwards about that meeting will follow shortly.

Some very alert reporters are noticing too and we appreciate it. You see, our meetings are full of great content from expert presenters and we take it from there to get things done toward building our local food network. The results of our presentation of the Puget Meat Producers Co-op is just one example. Just check out some recent articles by Chris Henry of the Kitsap Sun.

I visited the local farmers market in Silverdale today (7/21) with my camera. I was asked if I was from a newspaper, when I answered no I was told that I needed written permission from the person before I took pictures.

I called Silverdale Beach Hotel, whos grounds you are using, they have no such restriction.

Do you really tell tourists that they cannot take pictures with permission from the sellers?

    I have a few questions!

I was wondering if the people that sponsor the farm camp ever thought of doing something for 2 or 3 year olds with a parent for an hour or so once a week (maybe a friday since thats a lacking day for stuff!!).

Also, are there any pick your own fruits or veggie farms?

  7. Jim Freeman says:

I don’t know but it sounds like a good idea to bring up with Jo Walter. Why don’t you give her a call at (360) 479-3117 and talk to her about it. Thanks for your thoughts.

  9. Britta says:

Hey there! I am wondering if there are any farms roughly near Port Orchard that would like a hand for a couple of months while this college student is on summer break? If so that would be great!

    Thanks a lot, Britta P.

I need to find out who to contact to purchase tickets for the Harvest dinner. I have a supporter that wants to attend but the website is too confusing and she prefers to purchase in person. Please contact me with a viable phone number or address that I can pass on to her.

Mid age Woman looking for work, I would like to learn more about the harvesting of anything and everything from start to finish. I am a hard worker and prefer to get my hands dirty on a daily basis. I know how to use a shovel , and can help with almost anything farm related if you give me a direction and tell me to get it done. TeaTree92@yahoo.com
